On Macintosh Computers, you need an utility to access DOS formatted disks. Apple Inc. has delivered a patch that allows to use their standard OS utility PCExchange with MCDISKs for this purpose. For further information, please have a look at the PC Exchange Patch Installation Guide in the Documentation Area ofthis homepage

Windows XP does insist on creating a drive letter for every Logical Unit (LUN) a SCSI device presents. It will, however, use LUN 0 to access all these drives (which is not very consequent, after all). To get rid of the surplus drive letters is relatively easy. But on a dual slot MCDISK, access to the upper slot is not possible anymore.
Some additional entries in the registry can suppress this behavior and force Windows XP to follow the SCSI standard. We have prepared a registry file that adds these entries automatically for you if downloaded and executed on your Windows XP machine. Please make sure that you have administrative privileges on your system prior to install!
All the MCDISKs contain firmware that is located in an EPROM inside the device. Therefore, it is possible to update the firmware by changing the EPROM.
New firmware upgrades can either be obtained from our Distributors or you can program the EPROM yourself. For this, you need an empty or erased 512 kBit EPROM (27C512) to put the appropriate binary into. We do not recommend to re-use the original EPROM from the MCDISK so you have the possibility to revert your changes in case something goes wrong.
The binaries below have to be put into the EPROM with an offset of 0x4000. This means that the byte with the address 0x0000 of the binary has to be put at address 0x4000 in the EPROM.
The actual firmware version for the MCDISKs is V4.3.
MCDISK | Binary | Checksum |
---|---|---|
MCDISK-E-1 Serial No. > 3000 |
md_055.43 | 0x5752 |
MCDISK-E-1x Serial No. > 3000 |
md_055.43 | 0x5752 |
MCDISK-E-5 Serial No. > 2500 |
md_055.43 | 0x5752 |
MCDISK-G (all versions) | md_130.43 | 0xC26B |
Firmware updates for other types of MCDISKs may be made available upon request.
Please contact if you have any questions regarding the programming of the EPROMs.
