U-Boot

MPL AG actively participates in the development of the Universal Bootloader (U-Boot), the successor of the former PPCBoot.

We make tested binaries available for our PPC based products only, though. The documentation covering the installation of those binaries on the MIP405T is located in the MIP405T Documentation Area of this home page.

Linux Kernel for the MIP405T

MPL AG maintains a patch against the official Linux 2.6.12 Kernel that contains all MIP405T specific changes and drivers. Please follow the procedure given below to be able to compile the kernel on your own:

A working PowerPC (cross-)compiler is needed. The recommended version is 3.2. For the MIP405T, the compiler should not use floating point instructions (but they are not used in the kernel, anyway). The C-library (glibc) is not used for the kernel, too.
The appropriate kernel version from www.kernel.org.
The kernel patch from below. This patch includes a default configuration (mip405t_defconfig) which should be copied to .config in the linux directory. This configuration can be changed using the standard "make ???config" commands.
To start the kernel build process, use the "make uImage modules" command. To be able to create a bootable kernel image, you also need the "mkimage" tool from the U-Boot package.
After the build process finished successfully, install the kernel modules using "make modules_install" and copy the kernel image under "arch/ppc/boot/images/" to the appropriate location.
